Our Mission
To make hardware design radically faster and more accessible. Every phone, medical device, robot, and satellite starts with a circuit board — but designing them still takes weeks of manual work and thousands of dollars.
Why We're Building This
Hardware engineers spend too much time context-switching between tools, searching datasheets, and doing repetitive layout work. We're building tools that let them focus on the creative, high-judgment parts of design — and let AI handle the rest. For experienced engineers, we accelerate. For newcomers, we make it possible to get started at all.
Our Approach
AI-native from the ground up. Not AI bolted onto legacy tools. We gave AI a native format — text-based for reasoning, visual for humans — so it can optimize across your entire project. High-level reasoning combined with rigorous DRC/ERC validation.
Why Now
PCB design is a combinatorial optimization problem — exactly the kind AI excels at. Recent advances in reasoning models, combined with domain-specific training on thousands of real schematics, make true automation possible for the first time.
Built on Open Source
Trace is built on KiCad, the most widely used open-source EDA tool. Zero ramp-up time for the 300K+ engineers already using it. We contribute back to the ecosystem.
